BASIC WATCH CARE RULES

The following practical tips will help you protect your watch from adverse factors in everyday use:

  • Never try to open the watch or remove the case back
  • The watch should be checked at least once a year for resistance to water and dust. If necessary, replacement of the gaskets should be performed only in authorized service centers.
  • Before submerging the watch in water, make sure the crown is in the first position.
  • If water enters the case, bring the watch to an authorized service center as soon as possible.
  • Do not subject the watch to extreme conditions (above 60 degrees Celsius or below -5 degrees Celsius). While the watch is being worn body heat protects it from extreme temperature changes.
  • Do not drop, hit, or strike the watch.
  • Do not fasten the strap too tightly. The watch should be fastened as to allow a finger between the watch strap and arm.
  • The watch should be kept in a dry place.
  • Prevent the watch from being exposed to gasoline, cleaning supplies, aerosols, paints, etc, as they may react with it and damage the gaskets, case and/or its coating.
  • The sapphire crystal has a special anti-scratch coating but can crack if struck or dropped.
  • Store the watch away from jewelry, as diamonds can scratch the crystal.
  • Store the watch in a separate box lined with soft fabric.

FAQS

1. I have old (pocket, table) watch/clock manufactured by Molnija. It’s very precious thing for me and I would like to know more about it. Can I find out how many watches/clocks like this have been produced? What is the exact year of production?

Chelyabinsk watch and clock factory MOLNIJA produced about a million household hours a year in Soviet times from 50 to 80-90. Unfortunately, the documentation on the numbers of the movements and the release dates were not preserved at the factory. You can send us an e-mail photo of the watch and the movement with the back cover open to determine the approximate dates of the watch. For pocket watches with a 3602, 3603 caliber, a guide to Molnija movements was compiled by users of the Russian watch forum. If you wish, you can compare your movement with the descriptions in this guide https://goo.gl/FoKNm1 (it is in Russian language).

2. Can I buy spare parts for 3602/3603 caliber?

At this time, the details of the 3602/3603 movements are not supplied separately, as there is no such technical possibility.

3. Will the black coating wear off? Is it durable?

The black coating on Molnija watches is IP (Ion Plating) coating, which is a type of PVD. PVD coating involves several deposition methods through direct vapor condensation of the material being applied. IP coating, in essence, is an improved version of PVD in terms of resistance to scratches and rust. The main difference between IP and PVD is the presence of an additional layer that allows the surface to be any color, depending on the color of the dye used in the coating process.

4. Can someone be allergic to the watch?

All our watches are made from medical-grade 316L stainless steel, which is hypoallergenic and also used for manufacturing medical instruments. Additionally, we offer watches made from titanium, which is also a hypoallergenic material.

5. Can you swim or dive with the watch? You should consider the water resistance rating:

  • 5 ATM – You can wash your hands and withstand splashes from rain, but you cannot swim or dive with these watches.
  • 10 ATM – You can shower, bathe, and swim with these watches. However, you should not dive deep. After exposure to moisture, dry the watch before using the chronograph buttons or crown. Do not operate the buttons or crown when the watch is wet.
  • 20 ATM – These watches are designed for deep diving. You can bathe, swim, and dive with them. After exposure to moisture, dry the watch before using the chronograph buttons or crown. Do not operate the buttons or crown when the watch is wet.

Additionally, consider the type of strap. Leather straps and metal bracelets should not be exposed to water. For water activities, it is better to use silicone, nylon, or rubber straps.

6. What justifies the price of the watches?

The price is determined by the combination of production costs: design development, acquisition of new equipment for manufacturing components, testing, and servicing the watches. We are expanding our production, implementing modern technologies, and attracting young specialists, all of which are quite costly. Additionally, we specialize in small-batch production, which enhances the quality of the watches but also impacts the cost per unit.

7. Is the glass on the case back sapphire or mineral?

All case backs with glass use mineral glass, not sapphire.

8. What is the lifespan of the mechanism?

The stated lifespan of the mechanism for wristwatches is 5 years. In practice, with regular and proper maintenance, the mechanisms can last 10 to 15 years.

9. What is the battery life in quartz watches?

Approximately 3-4 years, depending on usage (how often the chronograph and other additional functions are used).

10. Is there a manufacturing date for the watches?

The manufacturing date is not shown in the watch documents.

11. Are the watches shock-resistant?

All mechanisms installed in our wristwatches are shock-resistant.

12. What is TCB?

TCB stands for watches with a transparent case back and equipped with a decorated 3603 mechanism.

13. Are the blue screws on the 3603 movement painted or heat-treated?

This is heat treatment; the blue color is achieved by heating to a specific temperature in a special solution.

14. Warranty for the watches?

The warranty for all wristwatches is 2 years.
